Bringing a Cook Into Your Kitchen

A cook works in the most particular room in the house, to a family's own taste, on a schedule that has to fit everyone's day. This section covers how to set that up — menus, timings, dietary needs and kitchen expectations — so the arrangement is clear before the first meal rather than argued about after it.

What this section covers

The Practical Questions, Answered Plainly

These are the things families ask us before a cook starts, and the things that cause friction when they are left unsaid. Writing them down here does not replace that call — it just means you are not starting from nothing.

What we write about

  • Agreeing a weekly menu that suits the household rather than being negotiated daily
  • Setting meal timings that work for everyone who eats at home
  • Communicating dietary requirements, preferences and restrictions clearly
  • Kitchen hygiene, storage and utensil expectations, stated up front
  • Groceries — who buys, who decides, and how that is settled

What we will not write about

  • Therapeutic, diabetic, renal or any other medical diet — those must come from a doctor or dietitian who knows the case
  • Nutrition advice, weight guidance or health claims about particular foods
  • Fixed rates — what a cook is paid depends on the meals, the timings and the household

Where a household needs a medically prescribed diet, we will place a cook who can follow it exactly as written — but the diet itself must come from the treating doctor or a qualified dietitian. We do not design or adjust medical diets, and we will not write about them as though we could.

The service behind this section

What Home Cook Services Means Here

Experienced home cooks for daily, fresh, home-style meal preparation on a regular schedule. Every person we place is verified and briefed on the household's preferences before the first day.

Cooked to your taste, not a standard

The point of a home cook is that meals taste like your household's food. We brief the cook on preferences before they start rather than leaving it to be discovered over a fortnight.

A schedule that holds

One meal a day, two, or more, at timings agreed in advance. A cook arriving at an unpredictable hour helps nobody, so we settle this before the placement begins.

Verified before placement

Identity, address and background checks are completed before anyone enters your home. The same standard applies to every placement without exception.

Guides

Home Cook Services Guides

Practical guidance on arranging cooking help at home. None of it is nutrition or diet advice — each guide states plainly what it does not cover, and points anything medical or dietary back to your doctor or a qualified dietitian.

How to Choose a Home Cook

Starting from how your household actually eats rather than from a meal count, and what makes a cooking arrangement last past the first month.

  • Describe the food before the job
  • Timings before meal count
  • Judge over a fortnight, not a first meal

Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Home Cook

What to ask and what to verify before someone has daily access to your kitchen — and what a fair conversation looks like from both sides.

  • Verification questions with yes-or-no answers
  • Cooking style over years of experience
  • Answers worth a second question

Preparing Your Kitchen Before a Home Cook Starts

The walk-through, the weekly pattern, groceries and storage — the household conventions nobody has ever had to explain before.

  • The walk-through, in the kitchen
  • A weekly pattern, not a daily decision
  • Agreeing how you talk about the food

More is being written

These are the first three guides in this section. More appear here once they are written and checked — no schedule, because we will not publish a date we might miss. The Home Cook Services page covers what we provide and how meals and timings are agreed.

Or just ask

If you are working out how many meals a day you need and at what times, a phone call will get you a straight answer in a few minutes. It costs nothing and there is no obligation attached to it.

Tell Us What Your Household Eats

Describe it in your own words — how many people, how many meals, the timings, and any dietary requirements. We will tell you honestly what kind of help fits, and if we are not the right people for it, we will say so.

Every person we place is verified before a placement starts.
